Pencil on paper, 216 x 120cm 2009-10 (SOLD)

This drawing was inspired by Melencolia I, an engraving by the German renaissance master Albrecht Durer; an angel sitting in thoughtful sadness surrounded by the worries of the earth and universe. My intension was to create a modern interpretation of the piece Melencolia I, something more personal and representative of my time at The Glasgow School of Art.
The life-size drawing represents a moment in time and thought. The pile of books symbolizes the art world and the figure sits on them in thoughtful sadness contemplating his practice and that of others.
